FERTIMANURE was the subject of an informative presentation during the Global Symposium on Soils for Nutrition -  “Soils, where food begins” organised by the United Nations’ FAO last July.

Laura Díaz-Guerra, a Researcher at BETA Technological Centre, highlighted FERTIMANURE’focus on ways of improving the agronomic use of recycled nutrients from livestock manure with the  main objective to develop, integrate, test, and validate innovative Nutrient Management Strategies to obtain reliable and safe fertilisers that can compete in the European fertiliser market.

She also introduced the 5 innovative experimental on-farm pilots adding that in the long term FERTIMANURE is expected to contribute to the development of new business models synergetic with other economic sectors that can improve the job quality in rural areas and favour more sustainable agricultural practices.

Organised by the FAO with high-level speakers from around the world, the Global Symposium on Soils for Nutrition -  “Soils, where food begins,” was held in a virtual format from 26 to 29 July 2022. It brought together science and policy to review the status and challenges of soil fertility in relation with crop, animal, and human nutrition.

Its main objectives were to review the role of soil fertility in delivering sufficient, high quality, safe, and more nutritious food for better nourished people, animals, and plants. It provided the basis for discussion among policymakers, food producers, scientists, the fertiliser industry, practitioners, and other stakeholders on the creation of solutions that could provide more nutritious agri-food systems for enhanced human health and wellbeing while protecting the environment.
