2 On farm pilots are set up in France
02/03/2022

In France, there are two mobile pilots located in:
1. Grand Est, where there is a nitrogen stripping unit to produce Ammonium Sulphate from pig slurry, and a pyrolysis pilot that transforms poultry manure into biochar.   The Ammonium Sulphate and biochar were tested in 2021 in the following regions and on the following crops: > Brittany – maize, spinach (Ammonium Sulphate), and ray grass (Biochar) ·
> Grand Est- beetroot, cabbage (Ammonium Sulphate) ·
> Somme- potatoes (Ammonium Sulphate and biochar)

2. Brittany, where there is only a pyrolysis pilot that transforms poultry manure into biochar. The biochar produced in this mobile pilot, and the Ammonium Sulphate will be tested on the field during 2022.   To involve the farmers and the most relevant stakeholders in the FERTIMANURE project, the field trial visits, in Brittany and Somme, will take place in June 2022. The purpose of this visit is to show how the pilot works, the different technologies involved, the BBFs tested in the field trials, and the results obtained in 2021.

The pyrolysis pilot to produce biochar will be showcased during two international exhibitions:
> Bio360 Expo in Nantes, and
> SPACE in Rennes
