Second Large-Scale Event in Argentina

As part of the Communication and Dissemination activities, the 2nd Large-Scale Event took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The main objective of this large-scale event was to transfer knowledge, share experiences, share the project results, and communicate about FERTIMANURE to the different stakeholders.

The 2nd Large-Scale Event took place on March 13 2023, and the following activities took place as part of this big event:

Day 1 – 8 March 2023: The FERTIMANURE partners visited the Expoagro fair, which is the biggest agro-industrial fair in Argentina. During their visit they managed to go to the INTA* tent, where they got to know more about the agricultural activities that this technological institute is carrying out in the CELAC region. Afterwards they visited the agricultural section of the fair where they got to see the livestock production represented onsite as well as the technologies related to the field activities. Then, the FERTIMANURE project partners went to the Experts Tent where they had a reserved spot to display all of the communication and dissemination material. In this tent, they communicated about the project and its results to a multiple and diverse audience. Finally, the project partners managed to share experiences and knowledge with fertilising companies that were located at the fair.  

Day 2 – 9 March 2023 The FERTIMANURE project partners visited a large-scale dairy farm that has more than 30,000 milking cows. During the visit the partners got to know more about the farm’s productions systems, the way they manage the manure of these cows, how they collect it, and how they use a part of it in some of the many anaerobic digesters that can be found at the farm. After visiting the farm, the FERTIMANURE partners managed to present the project and its results, share experiences, and transfer knowledge to a group of more than 20 agricultural and livestock producers. During this presentation there were many questions asked by the stakeholders, since the project is of great interest in the area (new business models at the farm). This day ended with a networking lunch were more in depth conversation took place around different topics.  

Day 3 – 10 March 2023 The FERTIMANURE project partners visited a small/medium-scale pig farm that has been owned by a family for generations. The FERTIMANURE partners managed to understand their production systems and how they manage their wastes (legislation). They managed to understand a little more about the differences between Europe and the CELAG region in this aspect. After visiting the farm, the FERTIMANURE partners managed to present the project and its results, share experiences, and transfer knowledge to a group of more than 20 agricultural and livestock producers form the ‘Rural Change’ group (AER INTA Arrecifes).    

Day 4 – 13 March 2023 The Second Large-Scale Event took place at the INTA Castelar facilities, where more than 50 stakeholders participated (agricultural & livestock producers, fertilising industry, academia & research, policy makers & authorities, and public & general public). During this presentation the FERTIMANURE partners presented, in a very detailed way, the results obtained in each of the work packages. This was a way to share results, transfer knowledge and experiences, and also to communicate about the project. The stakeholders showed great interest in the pilots and the high value products obtained from animal manure (new business opportunities).

For this event a poster was created for each pilot to showcase the bio-based fertilisers obtained in each of them, as well as the technologies that each represent for manure treatment. The practice abstracts were also shared with the agricultural and livestock producers, as well as the leaflet that explains the project. After the presentations, the FERTIMANURE partners managed to do some networking with many of the interested stakeholders, where they answered to questions and went more into the specifics. Finally they visited the INTA Castelar facilities to know more about the activities carried out.
